Eszterházy Károly University has offered its first Hungarian as a foreign language course

Finnish, Czech, Croatian, German, Chinese and Columbian participants attend the first Hungarian as a foreign language course at Eszterházy Károly University. During the two-week training course participants could learn Hungarian in and outside of the classroom.

At the opening ceremony participants were greeted by Mrs. Katalin Tóth Tayler, head of the Centre of International Relations and by Dr. Kálmán Liptai the rector of the university.

In his speech, the rector gave them an insight into the era in which Károly Eszterházy dreamt about a university in Eger. He explained internationalization is a prior duty for universities in the 21st century and in the past years Eszterházy Károly University has done much to achieve this goal. He mentioned China, Indonesia, Bordeaux and Linz, few of the universities which the institution has strategic cooperation with.

Eszterházy's dream - he said - was to create a European university and the institution is still working on it. Teaching Hungarian language and culture to foreign students - he added - is especially a kind task.

During the opening ceremony participants could meet their teachers and watch a short introduction about the city and the university. After that they also introduced themselves, some of them in Hungarian.
