Science Without Borders at Eszterházy
Utolsó módosítás: 2016. January 27.
The Brazilian Science Without Borders program has started in January, 2014 at Eszterházy Károly University of Applied Sciences. The students arrived in three different rounds: first round (four students) in the beginning of January, second round (six students) at the end of February and third round at the end of May (two students).
Various units of Eszterházy Károly University of Applied Sciences are involved in the program. From the side of the Centre for International Relations, there are three units working with the Brazilian students. It is the Mobility Office that coordinates the administrative and practical part of the program while the Office of Linguistic and Intercultural Services provides orientation, extracurricular and intercultural activities for the students and the Institute for Foreign Languages and Communication provides the preparatory and optional language courses. For the side of the professional studies, it is mainly the Faculty of Natural Sciences (Institute of Mathematics and Informatics) that provide academic courses for the students, but the instructors of the Faculty of Humanities and Economics and Social Sciences are also engaged.
The Office of Intercultural Communication and Language Services and the Mobility Office has organized various out-of-school programs for the students. We are convinced that it is essential to help the integration of the students into the life in Hungary and Eger. Hence, our Brazilian students got invited to the Freshman's Camp, a 5-day student event organised for the Hungarian students that took place in Tiszafüred a few days before the start of the semester. We are proud to say that it was the very first time when international students got invited to the official central Freshman's Camp of the institution and it was a great success. One of the services that we provide for the students to help them with the integration is the Intercultural Training that was offered three times for the Brazilian students throughout the autumn term of the 2014/2015 academic year. There were several leisure programs organized for the Brazilian students including a trip to Vienna to visit the city and its Christmas markets, a trip to Szeged to celebrate the Brazilian Republic Day together with the Brazilian students of the University of Szeged, and two trips to Budapest, one explicitly for the Brazilian students.
Four of our students successfully completed all the requirements of the Computer Science program on a Bachelor level and finished their studies at the end of January 2015. In the spring semester of the 2014/2015 academic year, six students continue their professional studies at Eszterházy Károly University of Applied Sciences.
